Produced on the occasion of the exhibition "With the Eyes of the Earth" at COLLI, Rome. Forty-nine years ago, Robert Smithson created his first Asphalt Rundown of earth in October 1969 in an abandoned quarry near Rome with Galleria L’Attico. This publication gathers rare and unpublished material from the Archives of Claudio Abate and Fabio Sargentini (Galleria L’Attico) documenting the iconic flow and the exhibition that Smithson created within Galleria L’Attico, as well as sculptures and video works by Markus Karstiess, who excavated to search for the remains of the asphalt in 2014.
